Situated 25 kms away from jodhpur city, is the tribal hamlet named as Guda Bishnoi Village. The village is renowned for its majestic beauty. Next to the Guda Bishnoi village there is a Guda Bishnoi Lake and the village is surrounded by prosopis cineraria; species of a flowering tree locally known as Khejri. The Villagers here are worshippers of nature; they believe in protecting the plants & animals. People here are pure vegetarians; also they worship trees and chinkara's. It’s a main center of interest for tourist because the village is home to peacocks, deer, black buck, antelopes, gazelles and other migratory birds. Gazelles are also worshiped by the local villagers. Numerous species of birds and cranes can be found near the Guda Vishnoi Lake especially during the winters. Visit to Bishnoi Village reminds of the ancient times, how life was in the old times.
The Bishnoi Village Safari was an initiative commenced by the Raja’s and Maharaja’s of Jodhpur to showcase the rich culture, royal traditions of Rajasthan to the tourists & Visitors. Tourist visit here to experience village life style. Villagers stay in small sand cottages known as Dhani, floors are made of mud and cow dung to protect from insects. Villagers worship Lord Vishnu, cutting of trees or burying/cremation of the dead is prohibited in village area as people here are very possessive towards protecting the nature.
Safari tours & tour guides can be booked, tours to the village will give close exposure with lifestyle of local village people, and most of the residents of the village are bishnoi families. One can tour around the village; witness the beauty of the guda lake and wildlife, typical marwari cuisine, day to day life style of the Villagers.
