Chamunda Mata Temple

Chamunda Mata temple is dedicated to Chamunda Mata also known as Chamundi Devi or Goddess Chamundeshwari.  It is built is the property of Meherangarh Fort, located at the south end of the fort, Chamundi Devi is the main goddess of the the royal family. Rao Jodha who was the founder of Jodhpur was a devotee of Chamunda Mata, he had this temple built. In the year 1460 during his govern when the capital city was shifted from Mandore to Jodhpur her idol was brought from Mandore to Mehrangarh. The idol of the goddess is made using black stone, and it is considered that Chamunda Mata is the guarding avatar.  

The royal families of Jodhpur and devotees visit the temple all round the year. The temple is especially crowded during festivals like Dussehra & Navaratri. People come here to seek blessing of Chamunda Mata. Chamunda Mata temple also has an idol of Kalika Devi.  It’s quite peaceful and away from the hustle bustle, tourists can sit there pray & enjoy the breath taking panoramic view of the Blue city.  The temple is open throughout the year however timings of Puja may vary depending on the festivals.
