Blue City Tour

Discover the blue city in Jodhpur. The blue city is a part of old city in Jodhpur, reason being; most of the houses are painted blue in color. In earlier days people used to paint their houses blue, as it believed that blue color symbolizes lord Shiva and Brahmins priests are true believers of Shiva. The sight of Blue city is colorful and lively. It proffers photographic stills, amazing backdrops to capture. The City streets are busy and narrow, While taking a stroll in the blue city one gets to perceive everyday lives of the locals; doing house hold chores, kids running on the streets, vendors selling groceries screaming on top of their voices. As it said, “What catches the eye catches the heart”; old city is a perfect illustration of that. The Blue city area is also known as “Bramhpuri”, it is sited to the edge of renowned Meherangarh Fort. The fort gives a Bird eye view of the city. The houses are box shaped, indigo in color stretching up to 10kms from inside ChandPol located in old city. The priests employed indigo color indicating the identity of a pure Brahmin. However another reason to keep the houses blue is to subdue the heat, also known as Sun city the temperature in Jodhpur is quite hot during summers. Thus blue colored walls soothe the houses and keep them cool. The sight of the Blue City is no less than a movie, it’s recommended to hire a tour guide or sign up one of the ongoing tours to the city. Since the alleys are narrow and labyrinth so it’s easy to get lost. The walls and wooden doors of the houses are well handcrafted, which makes the stroll visually appealing. There are small temples located outside some houses, where locals can be seen seeking blessings and chanting. There is a Wall located in the city which serves as a popular place of interest, especially among the tourists. The reason it’s been quite talk of the town is because one of the famous photographers from NAT-GEO; Steve Mccury captured a picture of a child running through the lane and wall can be seen on the sides. It was captured in 2007 There are colorful hand imprints on the wall in red color which makes it quite picturesque.
